LaCivita returns to Trump campaign after 'mission' in Albania

Chris LaCivita, one of the main architects of Donald Trump's campaign in the 2024 US presidential election, has returned to the center of the Republican political operation, as the US president's team has begun preparations for the midterm elections.

LaCivita is part of Trump's inner circle of political advisers who are coordinating the Republican Party's strategy, campaign messaging and funding for upcoming congressional battles, according to a recent report by Axios. He has been involved in high-level MAGA team meetings, along with figures like Susie Wiles, Tony Fabrizio and James Blair.

But before returning to the American scene, LaCivita had a special commitment outside the United States: he was involved in the electoral campaign of the Democratic Party of Albania, working as a political strategist for the opposition leader, Sali Berisha, in the 2025 parliamentary elections.

The American strategist, who had played an important role in Trump's return to the White House, was committed to bringing elements of the Trump-style American campaign model to Albania, with a focus on direct communication with voters, mobilizing the electoral base, and building a narrative against the ruling government.

However, the result of the Albanian elections was not what LaCivita expected.

Despite the electoral defeat, LaCivita's engagement in Albania had another political dimension: the issue of Sali Berisha's relations with the United States.

Berisha was declared " non grata " by the US State Department in 2021, due to allegations of corruption and abuse of public office, allegations which he has repeatedly denied.

However, following political changes in Washington and Berisha's continued and costly lobbying, US authorities recently approved exemptions that allowed Berisha to travel to the United States, including for health reasons. LaCivita himself is thought to have been instrumental in this, through his lobbying.

The decision was made public by Berisha himself, while US authorities confirmed the existence of legal mechanisms for granting exemptions from US entry restrictions.

This development was seen by Berisha's supporters as a partial restoration of relations with Washington, while his opponents argued that the political and legal issue still remains debatable.

For LaCivita, however, returning to Trump marks the transition from a minor international electoral battle to one of the most important contests in American politics. He will now be part of the Republican effort to maintain control of Congress and protect the political balance of a second Trump presidency.
