A tragic event occurred in Italy, where 61-year-old Albanian Bashkim Rushani lost his life when a heavy metal gate fell on his body while he was carrying out work on a private property in the city of Casarano, in the province of Lecce.

The accident occurred on the morning of November 4, in the Contrada Spagnolo area. According to Italian media, Rushani, the owner of a construction company, was working to repair some pillars supporting a sliding gate when the structure suddenly broke loose and crushed him.

Despite the rapid arrival of emergency teams, the 61-year-old man could not survive. Carabinieri and occupational safety inspectors also arrived at the scene, who have launched investigations to clarify the circumstances of the accident.

But beyond his activity as an entrepreneur in the construction sector, Bashkim Rushani was also an artist, graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Tirana. He practiced his passion for contemporary painting and sculpture, participating in art courses and exhibitions.

His story is connected to the wave of Albanian emigration to Italy in the early 1990s. Rushani left Albania in 1992, on one of the ships transporting immigrants to the Italian coast, in search of a better life.

He initially settled in Casarano, where he built his life and integrated into the local community. After a few years, he also obtained Italian citizenship. For about 30 years, he worked in the construction sector, while at the same time continuing to deal with art, a passion he never abandoned.

His friends and acquaintances in Italy remembered him as a good man and a talented artist.

"I am shocked. We met in 1998 and we were united by a passion for art. He had extraordinary creativity, he was a versatile artist. We lost a wonderful man," said his friend, lawyer Giovanni Bellisario.

Meanwhile, the Lecce prosecutor's office has launched investigations into manslaughter against unknown persons, to determine the responsibilities and causes that led to the collapse of the gate.
