Tonight on "Top Story" by Grida Duma, journalist Anila Hoxha spoke about Minister Gogu's meeting with the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, in Fier prison.
Hoxha said that the mayor's mother goes to the prison every day to leave him food, but leaves without holding the meeting, so as not to waste the allowed monthly meetings.
She also raised questions about overnight visits by institution officials, the lack of SPAK notification, and suspicions of procedural violations in the treatment of a person in detention.
"Every prisoner has a calendar of how many meetings he has and he absolutely considers these sacred and tries not to waste them for anyone other than his family. They seem to be so sacred for Veliaj, that today they told me how his mother, in order not to waste these days, goes every day, leaves food and leaves, because Veliaj continues not to consume prison meals. So, his mother goes, leaves food and returns, until this bonus of 4 times a month is made.
If we look at the night visit of Minister Gogu or, as they say, that he was with another official of the ministry. If we compare it with the meetings that were denied, not only to the media, but also to anyone else, to high-ranking officials, to Fredi Bejlerin, which SPAK persistently refused, it seems that there is an anomaly. But let's compare what happens to detainees and especially to those who are on SPAK's account. It is not only the meeting at night that is an anomaly. The Ombudsman also met him at night. Who meets the detainee without permission? So, the calendar is set by the director, that is, the close family who are there 4 times a month. Only two subjects meet him without permission: the prosecutor who is under investigation and the judicial police officer who carries out investigative actions on behalf of the prosecutor of the case.
Veliaj continues to be detained on behalf of SPAK. He is not convicted, where he can say that he will meet a journalist for an interview. SPAK has maintained a strict stance on detainees and it turns out that SPAK has not been notified. And especially, while this big discussion is happening, the AHC goes and finds these violations, the Ombudsman goes at night, meets Veliaj to find violations, a report that has not yet been released. We still do not have the same speed from the other aspect, whether or not there is at least an abuse of office, although the prisons are under the Ministry of Justice and it can be justified that they are under my control and what did he do, did he inspect them or meet a friend. A friend why at night and now what happens? Although Veliaj had sent a written statement to the trial court during the night and stated his entire position and informed the court and said: I request an in-depth, impartial investigation into this situation", said Hoxha.
