Popular British comedian found guilty of rape and sexual assault

Famous British comedian and actor Russell Brand has been found guilty by Southwark Crown Court in London of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault.

The trial, which lasted several weeks, involved the consideration of seven charges in total (which included three counts of rape, three of sexual assault, and one count amended to attempted indecent assault.

The jury, after reviewing the evidence and testimony presented during the trial, rendered a verdict in which 51-year-old Brand was ultimately found guilty of four of the criminal offenses he was charged with.

This decision marks a sensational and shocking turn for the 51-year-old's long public career.

British and international media have considered the sentence one of the most serious legal blows to the image of popular screen figures.
