Adriatik Llalla breaks silence: He talks about Donald Lu and the non grata from
Anisa Bahiti and Adriatik Llalla

From head of the General Prosecutor's Office and the High Inspectorate for the Declaration and Control of Assets, Adriatik Llalla ended up in the dock himself. After a long period of silence, the former chief prosecutor has decided to speak publicly, in an exclusive interview with journalist Anisa Bahiti, on the show "On the Road" on Top News.

In his first statement after leaving Albania, Llalla spoke about the decision of the Italian authorities not to extradite him, his sentence in Albania, the declaration of "non grata" by the US, the clash with former ambassador Donald Lu, and criticism of the Justice Reform.

Asked about the decision of the Rome Court, which recognized his right not to be extradited to Albania, Llalla links his fate to that of his father, who during communism was convicted as an agent of the American CIA.

"The Italian authorities, the Italian courts recognized my right not to be extradited to Albania. Seeing that the decision was unconvincing, that is, giving a severe sentence for such a criminal offense, the authorities, also assessing my relatively serious health condition, decided not to extradite me to Albania. As for my father, it seems that the same fate has followed us ," he said.

One of the most interesting moments of the interview was Llalla's response to how he feels about his former subordinates investigating and then convicting him. The former chief prosecutor claims that his case was handled in a biased manner and that a different standard was applied to him than to other officials.

"If there had been an impartial investigation and trial, my case would not have ended in such circumstances," Adriatik Llalla said on "On the Road" by Anisa Bahiti.

He emphasized that what convinces him even more about the bias in the case is the fact that other officials investigated for similar offenses have not been sentenced to imprisonment.

"In no other case of high-ranking officials or any official investigated or punished for such a matter has a prison sentence been given. Other alternative sentences have always been given, such as fines, suspended sentences or other milder alternative sentences. This creates even greater conviction in me that my case is a special case, treated in a prejudiced manner," Llalla said in "On the Road".

But the irony of his story is related to the fact that Adriatik Llalla himself, during the time he headed the HIDACCI, had requested harsher punishment for failing to declare assets, an offense for which he was later convicted.

"What I want to emphasize is the fact: Could Albania be the first case in the world of declaring an official non grata? Albania as a state, while the world has bigger problems, corrupt officials, convicted, and could I be the first case in the world? ", asked Llalla.

He claims that after the end of his mandate, investigations were launched against him for several criminal offenses, including corruption, but in the end the case ended with charges of failure to declare assets.

"In addition to the clashes with the ambassador, debates mainly related to the Justice Reform, anything could have had an impact. Upon the end of my mandate, investigations began against me for a number of criminal matters, including corruption, but it ended in failure to declare assets," said the former chief prosecutor.

Llalla added that he has also contacted the US State Department to seek explanations, but the response he received did not convince him.

"I contacted the State Department, the response came, the decision was made based on the opinions it has. But in reality, up until that period, there was no article in the newspaper or media that labeled me for corruption ," he said.

Asked what he would say to Donald Lu today if he were facing him, Llalla replied briefly:

"I would prefer not to be part of the debate with that official anymore. I have experienced what it is like to have a different opinion with him and I no longer want to be part of the debate."

Finally, the former chief prosecutor also commented on the decision against the former KLA leaders, which he described as unfair, stating:

"It is a totally unjust decision that is being made again against Albanians, a people always persecuted by the West. Someone was found again to punish Albanians," said Adriatik Llalla in "On the Road" by Anisa Bahiti on Top News.
