Albania enters the new edition of the Nations League with about 30 million euros less value than two years ago. If the value of footballers were a kind of thermometer of the state of a national team, then Albania is entering the new edition of the Nations League with a significantly lower temperature.
According to Transfermarkt estimates, the Albanian team in the last Nations League cycle had a total value of 118.75 million euros, while today the national team's quota is 88.80 million euros. The difference is 29.95 million euros, or a depreciation of about 25.2%. So, in just two years, Albania has lost about a quarter of its market value.
From 118.75 million to 88.80 million
The figure is important because we are not just dealing with a small change in the individual evaluations of the footballers. The structure of the team has also changed. The national team of the last edition had in its fold several players who at that time held considerable values on the market. Meanwhile, on the eve of the 2026/27 Nations League, some of them have lost value, some have left the national team's circulation and in their place are entering players with potential, but still without the financial weight of the previous generation.
Today Transfermarkt values Albania at €88.8 million, with 26 players and an average age of around 27.6 years. This makes Albania a less expensive team on paper, but not necessarily less competitive. Market value is an economic indicator and not a sporting result.
Armando Broja, the symbol of decline
The most significant case is Armando Broja. The striker who a few years ago was one of the greatest assets of Albanian football has dropped significantly in market valuation. Today Transfermarkt values him at 5 million euros. In the previous period, Broja was one of the players who significantly raised the capital of the National Team. The decline in his value is one of the reasons why Albania has not been able to maintain the level of nearly 120 million euros. But Broja is not the only case. Myrto Uzuni is today valued at 4 million euros, while Nedim Bajrami at 2.5 million. Both have had higher values in previous cycles.
At the same time, the defensive line is also less economically valuable than it once was. Berat Gjimshiti is now valued at 4 million euros, while many of the names who have held the weight of the defensive department have relatively modest values on the market.
But Albania has a new financial leader
Transfermarkt e vlerëson mesfushorin ofensiv me 15 milionë euro.
Mitaj vlerësohet aktualisht me 6 milionë euro, ndërsa Hasa me 4.5 milionë.
If we add Daku to these, we reach 36 million euros. So, the new Albania is more of a team with some financial strengths, rather than a team where the value is distributed equally. A cheaper national team, but with a big question
The drop from 118.75 to 88.8 million euros is statistically significant.
-29.95 million euros.
-25.2%.
But this does not automatically mean that Albania is 25% weaker.
In football, a player's price is determined by age, contract, club, minutes, performance, potential and the market. A player can have a lower value on Transfermarkt and be more important on the pitch.
For Albania, the main question in the 2026/27 Nations League is not whether the team is worth 88.8 or 118.75 million euros. The question is whether new capital can replace old capital.
Anis Mehmeti is currently at the top with 15 million euros, Kristjan Asllani remains an asset of 12 million euros, while Daku, Mitaj, Hasa and Shpendi form the group that could change this graph again in the coming years.
And this is precisely the story of this national team on the eve of the new Nations League: Albania is less valuable than two years ago, but is trying to build a new portfolio of players that can restore its growing value.
