The soccer ball with which Diego Maradona scored the famous "Hand of God" goal in the 1986 World Cup has been sold at auction for $3.3 million.
The Argentine legend flicked the ball with his hand, past goalkeeper Peter Shilton, in Argentina's 2-1 victory over England in the quarter-finals.
After the match, he told reporters that the goal was scored "a little bit with Maradona's head and a little bit with the hand of God."
The media reports that the value of this ball is rare, because it is the only one in existence from that iconic match.
Tunisian Ali Bin Nasser , who was the referee of the match, received the Adidas Azteca ball and kept it for more than three decades.
In 2023, he signed a statement to confirm that this was the only ball used during the match.
Bin Nasser sold the ball in 2022 for $2.3 million.
The new owner put it up for auction again in 2023, but the ball did not sell, as the bids did not reach the minimum set value.
The jersey worn by Maradona during the same match was sold for $9.7 million at auction in 2022.
