"Don't confuse the State Police's restraint with weakness!"

"The police will not back down in the face of violence. Institutions will be protected. Citizens will be protected. The law will be enforced with determination and without any exceptions."

This is how the press conference ended, with the director of the State Police, Skënder Hita, coming out to speak to journalists, only on the third day of violent protests in Tirana (today and in other cities).

But when will the Police, which so far has been showing restraint, "explode"?

When will it show its strength, while state institutions have been on fire for three days, private businesses are being brutally attacked, and citizens are already unsure about taking to the streets?

If not now, when, Mr. Hita?

The police cannot be complacent in these moments, but responsible.

And responsibility means reacting to violence, to protect the city, business, citizens, and institutions.

Otherwise, we will no longer have self-restraint, but self-judgment from citizens.

So while there is time, the Police must do their job.

Not to rape and hit any passing protestor with a rubber baton, as if to show that they are there, but to prevent the degradation of the situation, which is already at a critical level.

Now is not the time for restraint, but for taking charge of the city, to ensure the lives of citizens and businesses.
