Mile Svilar

Mile Svilar was named Serie A's best goalkeeper for the second year in a row, but is not part of Belgium's squad for this edition of the Nations League.

The Roma goalkeeper was born and raised in Belgium to Serbian parents and has represented Belgium at all age levels, from U15 to U21.

In September 2021, following the advice of his father, former Serbia goalkeeper Ratko Svilar, he accepted a call-up to the Serbian national team. Svilar played in a friendly against Qatar, where he made his debut for Serbia.

Although it was only a friendly match, FIFA considers it an official appearance and does not allow the goalkeeper to change national teams again. After that, Svilar decided to represent Belgium, but the decision did not solve the problem created by the appearance against Serbia.

A return to Serbia is also not seen as an option, as the Serbian federation no longer considers the goalkeeper a candidate for selection.
