National Bureau of Investigation agents are conducting searches in several premises in the coastal city of Saranda, including the home of the deputy mayor of Saranda, Elton Dauti, and his office.

Also, checks were carried out on the premises of the "Eco Taxi" company, which is owned by partners Kostandin Papa and Elton Dauti.

So far, there is no official information on the reasons for these checks and raids on residential and business premises, but preliminary suspicions fall on a permit granted by former Minister of Tourism, Mirela Kumbaro, for tourist trains in the Blue Eye.

The National Bureau of Investigation is reviewing the procedures that preceded the granting of the permit, the documentation submitted, and the conditions under which the operation of tourist trains in this tourist destination was authorized.

Under such conditions, it is suspected that the Special Prosecution Office may have discovered elements of favoritism towards a certain operator or indirect benefits for the families of the persons who were subject to checks this Thursday morning.

The issue of the train in the Blue Eye has been the subject of public debate since 2024. MP Ina Zhupa raised questions about the method of selecting the company providing the service, asking then-minister Mirela Kumbaro about the possible connections of the deputy mayor of Saranda with the activity.

Zhupa also raised the claim that Elton Dauti's wife may have interests in the business that operated the tourist train, while demanding transparency on the company's selection procedure. However, SPAK itself is expected to clarify the controls.
