Xhaka admits he received a fake vaccination certificate, Switzerland leaves him

Switzerland captain Granit Xhaka has been left out of the squad for next week's Nations League match after the Kosovo-born player admitted to receiving a fake COVID-19 vaccination certificate.

"Personally, I was very concerned about the COVID-19 vaccination. I had a deep distrust of the vaccine and was overcome by fear and uncertainty. In this emotionally charged state, I received a vaccination certificate, instead of clarifying my open dilemmas through the appropriate channels," Xhaka wrote on Instagram.

The Lucerne prosecutor's office will question the Sunderland captain in early October as part of its ongoing investigation.
