Former Tirana goalkeeper, Vasillaq Konomi, passes away

Vasillaq Konomi, the former goalkeeper of 17 November of Tirana in the 1970s, one of the figures of the generation that represented white-and-blue football in an important period of the club's history, has passed away.

Konomi will be particularly remembered for his connection to one of Tirana's most special matches in the European arena, the clash with Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam.

In a previously published account, he recalled with emotion the moment he learned the news of the draw that had placed Tirana against Ajax and recording emblematic performances.

His departure is a loss for his family, friends, former teammates and the Albanian football community.

The memory of Vasillaq Konomi will remain linked to the blue-and-white jersey and to a generation of footballers who wrote the history of Tirana in Albanian and European football.
