The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, like every weekend, held a virtual communication with citizens, where he spoke about the political situation in the country and the protests against the government.
Berisha said that Albania is in a deep crisis and accused Edi Rama's government of corruption, mismanagement and concentration of power.
According to him, a government that does not fight corruption, but protects it, loses legitimacy before the citizens.
Berisha also touched on the protests that, according to him, have been ongoing for 70 days in Tirana. He said that citizens have been protesting against corruption, government policies, environmental problems and the country's depopulation.
Berisha stated that if it were not a civic protest, he would be present at the rally every night.
"After the '90s, this is the most powerful youth civic protest in the history of this country. Could the Democratic Party's presence have been greater? It could have been greater. I say it here. Although they have taken and today many participants are Democrats. It took some time for them to adapt to the situation because the protest, in addition to the rightful demands, also had slogans with which they equated Edi Rama with Sali Berisha. These slogans are from the enemies of the Democratic Party. So they are slogans of the opposition, the opposition that is a tool of the government. If it were not a civic protest, Sali Berisha would be there every night, but a party leader does not serve it and there is no need for him to be there to harm its youthful civic spirit in the slightest."
Berisha also dedicated part of his speech to the Territorial Reform. He accused the government of centralizing power and weakening local government through territorial changes. The leader of the Democrat Party emphasized that the closure or merger of local units has led to a lack of services and has led to residents leaving their areas.
"Edi Rama's territorial reform, together with the policies pursued from 2014 to today, have exceeded in the power of expelling Albanians from their homes, villages, and cities, more than twice the platform of Vaso Çubrillović, which for the sake of truth, in addition to implementing the removal of services, the destruction of education, healthcare, ignoring infrastructure, and intimidation with the police, also had an international agreement with Turkey for the withdrawal of Albanians from Kosovo to Turkey," he added.
He encouraged citizens who have participated in the protests and said that opposition to the government should continue through peaceful protests.
