The Democratic Party has reacted to the new regulation adopted by the Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime, expressing concern about the provisions related to the access and work of journalists in court premises.

Through spokesperson Floriana Garo, the DP stated that it supports the independence of justice institutions and the security of judicial processes, but emphasizes that these principles should not be used to limit transparency.

"The solemnity of judicial processes cannot be transformed into censorship and the independence of justice cannot mean freedom from public control," the Democratic Party's response states.

According to the DP, several points of the new regulation raise serious concerns, particularly those related to the potential obligation of journalists to apply in advance to attend court hearings and restrictions on the use of electronic devices.

The Democratic Party opposes the ban on mobile phones and other electronic devices for journalists, arguing that they are work tools for communicating with editorial offices, taking notes, and reporting in real time.

The DP has also raised questions about the "media pool" system, which provides for the provision of footage from high-public-interest trials through the court's infrastructure. According to this political force, this mechanism should guarantee pluralism and should not turn into control of information by the institution itself being reported.

The response also states that the use of broad concepts such as "violation of dignity", coupled with measures such as suspension or revocation of accreditation, may create space for restrictions on the media.
