Minister of Defense responds to DP: Don't play politics with national

Minister of Defense, Ermal Nufi, has reacted to the Democratic Party's accusations regarding recent investments in the field of national security and civil defense, describing them as meaningless at a time when the country is facing a situation aggravated by fires.

Nufi said that in this situation, firefighters, Civil Emergency structures, the Armed Forces and Air Force pilots are working in difficult conditions to cope with fires throughout the country.

"In this situation of fires and the extraordinary work of all firefighters, Civil Emergencies in the Armed Forces, and heroic pilots of the Air Force, the reaction and accusations of the Democratic Party are completely meaningless, choosing to make a fuss about two of the most important steps recently taken by Albania for national security and civil protection," Nufi emphasized.

The Minister stated that the DP has launched attacks and has also filed a lawsuit in court regarding the $302 million FMF Loan agreement with the United States of America, while also criticizing the investment to equip Albania with three aircraft dedicated to extinguishing fires.

"The DP launched an attack, even filing a lawsuit in court, for the $302 million FMF Loan agreement with the US, and now instead of showing solidarity with the civil emergency workers throughout Albania (who may be left or right-wing), who are serving the homeland to cope with the fire situation, they are also attacking the investment to equip Albania with 3 aircraft dedicated to extinguishing fires," Nufi added.

Nufi emphasized that the investment in the three new firefighting aircraft aims to strengthen Albania's capacities in the field of civil protection.

He also announced that the project also includes training Albanian pilots in real-time conditions for the use of aircraft.

"The investment in the three new firefighting aircraft, which begins with the training of our pilots in real-time conditions for their use, aims to strengthen our capacities within the framework of civil protection," Nufi emphasized.

The Minister stated that the procurement procedure was developed in accordance with Albanian legislation, based, according to him, on the principles of legality, transparency, competition and equal treatment of economic operators.

According to him, the procedure was won by the lowest bid and the investment has strategic importance for increasing civil security, protecting citizens' lives, property and the environment.

"This is an investment made in full compliance with the Albanian legislation in force, based on the principles of legality, transparency, competition and equal treatment of economic operators, which according to the law was won by the lowest bid. Above all, this investment has strategic importance for increasing civil security, protecting the lives of citizens, property and the environment", Nufi emphasized.

He urged that issues related to national security, civil protection, and strategic partnerships not be used for political consumption.

"I have said it and will repeat it as often as necessary: issues affecting national security, civil protection and/or strategic partnerships should not be a field for political consumption. And if it happens: the best case is ignorance; the worst case is malice against the civic and national interest."

In his response, the minister expressed gratitude to all those involved in dealing with the fire situation, including civil emergency structures, municipalities, state agencies and the Armed Forces.

Nufi particularly praised the work of Air Force pilots and all personnel on the front lines of fighting the fires, describing them as heroes and thanking them for their service to the country.

"This, in the midst of a civil emergency situation that is being managed with professionalism by the heroes on the front lines and by all municipal structures, state agencies and by the personnel of the Armed Forces, to whom I take the opportunity to express my deepest gratitude and thanks for their work and service to Albania," concluded Minister Nufi.
