Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has reacted to the decision of the Special Court in The Hague for four former KLA leaders, criticizing the statements of Albanian political leaders and some regional leaders.

Vučić commented on the reactions in Albania, Kosovo and other countries in the region following the Hague decision, which sentenced Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi in the first instance to a total of 81 years in prison.

Vučić said he had planned his speech for the evening, as he wanted to see the reactions of political leaders in the region.

He highlighted the reaction of President Bajram Begaj and Prime Minister Edi Rama.

The Serbian President initially referred to the statement of the President of Albania, Bajram Begaj, who after the decision expressed "deep sadness" and stated that, according to him, the KLA cannot be tarnished and that "Freedom has a Name".

Vučić used this statement to draw a comparison with how the international public would react if a Serbian official used similar wording about a person convicted by an international court.

"Just imagine if one of our officials said: 'Freedom has a name' and mentioned any Serb convicted by the Hague Tribunal," Vučić said.

He also mentioned the reaction of Prime Minister Edi Rama, who after the announcement of the decision posted the word "Take it" on social media.

Vučić also commented on the reaction of Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, who described the decision as "an unacceptable injustice" and said that it should be changed in the appeal process.

The Serbian president also mentioned the statements of the Deputy Prime Minister of Montenegro, Nik Gjeloshaj, as well as the reactions of Albanian politicians in North Macedonia, among them Afrim Gashi and Ali Ahmeti.

Referring to these positions, Vučić said ironically: "And I thought they were criminals, at least convicted in the first instance. No, they are all liberators, heroes and heroines."

He also raised questions about the standards that, according to him, apply to Serbia and Serbs in relation to other peoples in the region.
