Albin Kurti

Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has reacted after the decision of the Special Court in The Hague, which sentenced four former KLA leaders to 81 years in prison.

In an official reaction, Kurti states that the guilty verdict of Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selim and Jakup Krasniqi is an unacceptable injustice, a great and harmful punishment.

Kurti requests that the verdict be changed at the Appeals Court, adding that at this moment, all of Kosovo stands with the families of the former KLA leaders and all fellow liberation fighters.

In the end, he said that today's verdict overturned the most serious allegation, that the KLA had carried out a widespread and systematic attack against a civilian population.

Kurti : The conviction and such a severe sentence for four former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army, Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi, is an unacceptable injustice, a great and harmful punishment. The verdict may have been formally pronounced in the name of the people of Kosovo, but this empty formula should not be confused with the will of the people. This verdict must definitely be changed and corrected at the Appeals Court, and as soon as possible. In these difficult moments, we stand by the families of the former leaders of the KLA and all fellow liberation fighters.

With the accusations in the Council of Europe by the Russian and Serbian MPs, everything started on April 15, 2008, but we must make sure that nothing ended today. None of the exaggerated and absurd claims and accusations, starting from the Yellow House. Today's verdict overturned the most serious claim, that the KLA had carried out a widespread and systematic attack against a civilian population.
