Bulgaria expected to lift veto on northern Macedonia, paving way for

Bulgaria seems to be moving towards lifting the veto on Northern Macedonia, thus paving the way for this country and Albania to advance on the road to the European Union.

The news was announced in a Twitter post by Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi.

In his post, Varhelyi calls opposition leader Boyko Borissov a historic decision for Europe, having agreed to vote in parliament to accept the opening of negotiations with northern Macedonia.

" We thank the opposition leader Gerb @BoykoBorissov
for making a historic decision for Europe and for accepting the negotiations with Northern Macedonia based on the French proposal that allows the continuation of the opening of membership negotiations with Northern Macedonia.

"We expect the government to make the necessary proposals to Parliament today so that Europe can move forward ," Varhelyi wrote.
