The outbreak of the serious environmental scandal at the Ferrochrome Plant in Elbasan has brought movement to the management pyramid of the "Albchrome" company.

Kapital has learned that the main administrator of this company, Teuta Üstündağ, has officially left her position, closing relations with the company on Friday.

Üstündağ has been the most powerful person at Albchrome since September last year, when she was appointed as the company's first administrator. But after the waste scandal broke, about two months ago, the Turkish Yildirim Group appointed a new co-administrator at Albchrome, Turk Selim Sevgen, who is now the de facto leader of the company.

Üstündağ's departure comes just as a recent report by the National Environment Agency (AKM) and IKMT documented the situation at the plant as an "environmental disaster."

According to official findings, the metallurgical operator has illegally deposited hundreds of tons of toxic and poisonous waste in the open, which seriously endangers the health of residents of the area.

This escalation comes just three days after the Elbasan Prosecutor's Office intervened by ordering the immediate seizure of these hazardous wastes and opening a broad criminal investigation.

Field inspections revealed over 300 tons of harmful industrial dust, collected from chimney filters, which had been stacked without any safety measures or insulation against atmospheric agents in the open air.

In the midst of this difficult situation, Teuta Üstündağ, who held the reins of the company's administration during the period when the poison scandal was discovered, has left office, handing over the baton to the Turkish Sevgen.

The prosecution authorities are continuing their investigations to determine the extent of the criminal responsibility of the former executives and it is not known whether these recent management moves were made to avoid accountability before the law. /kapitali.al
