"No one can take Kosovo away from my soul"/ Vučić consoles himself
Aleksandar Vucic

After losing the election to students, former Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić appeared singing the song "Vidovdan", one of the symbols of Serbian nationalism, at a meeting with his supporters in northern Serbia, where Kosovo was once again at the center of the political message.

During an event held on Friday evening in the town of Sremska Mitrovica, in the Vojvodina region, Vučić joined supporters of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) in performing the song, while former Prime Minister Ana Brnabić hugged him.

"Wherever I go, I return to you again; no one can take Kosovo from my soul," Vučić sang, conveying a message that has accompanied nationalist politics in Serbia for decades.

The song "Vidovdan", created in 1989 and performed by Gordana Lazarević, is connected to the Serbian historical memory of the Battle of Kosovo in 1389.

It became a symbol of Serbian nationalism at the same time that Slobodan Milosevic used the myth of Kosovo to mobilize political support.
