Lionel Messi has made a long message on social media, dedicated to his father, who lost his life a few days ago.

"Dad, I still can't believe you're gone. I can't accept it, or rather, I don't want to accept it. It's so hard for me to imagine that I won't see you again, that we won't talk anymore. I know you were suffering and that this was the best thing for you, but you left too soon. We still had so much to enjoy together.

How much you asked me to play in the last World Cup and just a few days before it started was the time when your condition worsened the most. It was the first time you wouldn't be in a tournament, but mom kept telling me that you would get better and that you would be well enough to travel. I kept telling you that we would reach the final, so that you could travel.

Every time a match ended, I waited and missed your message. That's when I realized that the situation was really serious. However, I didn't stop thinking about going as far as possible, to give you time and to see a match. We reached the final and you couldn't be there. I wanted to win it to bring the cup to you and to show you a new one. I couldn't, my legs couldn't hold me anymore. This time I tried to fight against my physical condition, but I couldn't. I could never feel good.

When I came back, you believed we had lost the final on penalties. We couldn't talk about anything that happened. You couldn't enjoy anything. We didn't become champions, but you can't imagine how much we enjoyed every game. Once again, you were right: I should have been there and played.

I'm telling you this because it was the only thing we couldn't talk about, because you already know everything else. We talked every day and met whenever possible, between my commitments.

I don't know what I'll do without you, I don't know how I'll continue. I used to play football and now I have many doubts whether I'll continue doing this for much longer. You were by my side from the beginning and we missed you so much until the end. Why didn't you hold on a little longer, so we could finish it together?

I know that your happiness was seeing your family, your wife, your children well and, above all, without others knowing, seeing me playing...

Ever since I was little, it's always been like this. You took me to every practice as soon as you got home from work. Many times my mom would take me, because you were at work.

Of course, you were never absent from the matches. How much you suffered watching me and how much you rejoiced, even though you never gave me many compliments.

You were my father, my friend, and my representative. You were always the person you needed to be at any given moment, and you were never wrong about anything. Beyond a few scoldings or arguments, you were always right. In the end, everything ended up happening just as you said.

I will miss you very much, but you will always be present and, above all, in the education of my children, because I am teaching and educating them just as you did with me.
