UEFA has paid a six-figure sum to a woman who allegedly had an affair with Gianni Infantino while he was the organisation's general secretary.

The woman received a six-figure sum after an alleged affair with Mr Infantino, while he was one of the most senior officials in European football's governing body.

According to the allegations, she was promoted by Mr. Infantino during the time they allegedly had an affair.

After she left UEFA, the organization reportedly also paid for her MBA studies at a business school.

In a statement on Friday evening, UEFA acknowledged that a payment had been made and that it was aware of allegations that the woman had been in a relationship with Mr Infantino.

UEFA said it has since "strengthened" its regulations so that they "reflect the standards of a modern, high-profile organisation".

The admission comes after an investigation by The Telegraph, which revealed deep concerns among senior UEFA figures about Mr Infantino's conduct.

This adds to the growing furor surrounding his current role as FIFA president./ TheTelegraph
