A serious incident shocked the Albanian community in Italy, where a 21-year-old man is suspected of stabbing his 39-year-old mother, Meleqe Lusha, to death in their apartment in the town of Chiari, in the province of Brescia.
The suspected perpetrator, Eduart Xhani, appeared this morning at a carabinieri barracks in Cremona, with blood-stained clothes, where he declared: "I killed my mother, you found her at home."
His statement set the authorities in motion, who went to the apartment on Via Tagliata, where they discovered the 39-year-old's dead body.
According to the preliminary reconstruction of the incident, the 21-year-old is suspected of stabbing his mother about ten times in the upper body during the night, before leaving the apartment and wandering for several hours, until he decided to surrender to the police.
After questioning, Brescia judge Laura Matrone issued a detention order against the young man, who was sent to the Canton Mombello prison, about 12 hours after his surrender.
The motive for the crime is still a mystery.
Italian investigators are working to fully clarify the circumstances of the incident and determine the motive for the murder.
According to Italian media reports, the 21-year-old has not given any concrete explanations for the reasons that led him to this act. During questioning, he has shown himself reserved and had difficulty communicating.
The murder weapon is suspected to be a knife, which has not yet been found. Meanwhile, forensic experts have conducted examinations in the apartment where the incident occurred.
The event has caused great shock in the town of Chiari, where the family was well-known and integrated into the local community.
Mayor Gabriele Zotti expressed his sorrow over the tragedy, describing the event as an inexplicable episode.
"It is a well-known and integrated family in the area, where the Albanian community is strong. The victim's two brothers work in construction and are hard workers. As mayor, I am emotionally involved and express my deepest condolences to the entire family," he stated.
Representatives of the Albanian community have also expressed shock over the incident. Dennis Beqiri, president of the Albanian Chiari Association, who knew the young man closely, described him as a kind and serious boy.
According to Beqiri, Eduart Xhani had completed a school internship at his real estate agency and had always been characterized by correctness and good behavior.
