Explosion in Elbasan, 83-year-old woman who lived in the apartment next door

A powerful explosion has been recorded in an apartment in the city of Elbasan, causing significant damage to the building.

As a result of the explosion, the walls of the apartment and the stairs of the building reportedly collapsed. An 83-year-old woman, who lived in the apartment next door, died. Firefighters from Tirana also came to help.

Immediately after the event, the emergency evacuation of the building's residents began.

Firefighters are at the scene and are making it possible to evacuate the residents, intervening through the fire department's emergency ladders.

The entire building was evacuated, while 8 people were left asphyxiated as a result of the incident. According to preliminary information, the asphyxiated people are out of danger.

Meanwhile, emergency teams have not yet been able to enter the apartment where the explosion occurred, as there is still a fire there.

Emergency operations are continuing at the scene, while further information on the causes and consequences of the explosion is awaited.
