Prime Minister proposes dissolution of Government - Serbia moves to early

Serbian Prime Minister Duro Macut proposed this Monday to President Aleksandar Vučić to dissolve the government and call early elections for the country.

During his speech, Macut said that the elections are not a weakness of the state, but according to him, they are a test of the invincible strength of a democratic Serbia. He further stated that the elections are an opportunity to strengthen institutions, reduce tensions, reject the politics of exclusivity and return the political struggle from the streets to the institutions.

" Elections have never been a sign of the weakness of the state. Elections are proof of the invincible strength of a democratic Serbia that trusts its people without reservations. And we trust the citizens of Serbia, we believe in a united Serbia.

"Therefore, I propose that the Government of the Republic of Serbia, in accordance with the Constitution, propose to the President of the Republic to dissolve the National Assembly and call elections for members of parliament, " Macut said, according to RTS.

Macut said that until the election of new ministers, the current government will continue to perform its duties with the same energy, responsibility and pace, as well as achieve the set goals and contribute to the further progress of Serbia.

" Because the mandate has its end, but the responsibility towards the state continues every day. I am convinced that this government will continue on the path it has set in the future ," Macut emphasized.

The proposal to dissolve the Assembly in Serbia is a procedure that must be completed in order to call early parliamentary elections.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić previously stated that he would announce the date of parliamentary elections no later than September 9 or 10, and that they would be held on October 18 or 25. The president must issue a decree dissolving parliament within 72 hours.

Also, according to local media, Aleksandar Vučić is expected to step down from the position of President and run for Prime Minister.
