US President Donald Trump has floated another idea for changing the name of a country, this time targeting New Mexico.
Trump published on the Truth Social platform a map of the southwestern US state, where the word "Mexico" had been deleted and replaced with the word "America", transforming the name "New Mexico" into "New America".
The post was part of a series of 34 posts that Trump made in less than an hour on Sunday, where he addressed various topics, from Iran and the economy, to the elections in Germany.
On the map released by the American president, the word "Mexico" was crossed out with a large red "X", while below it was the word "America".
The image was later republished by the official White House account on X, but without any explanation and without any official initiative to change the state's name being announced.

However, unlike the names of some geographical features that can be changed for use by the federal government, the US president cannot unilaterally change the name of a state.
After “America’s Gulf” and “America’s Lake”
Trump's latest tweet follows several of his previous interventions in geographical naming.
After returning to the White House in January 2025, Trump signed an executive order renaming, for federal use, the Gulf of Mexico as "Gulf of America."
On August 27, 2026, he signed another executive order to rename, for federal use, Lake Ontario as "Lake America," at a time when trade relations between the U.S. and Canada remain tense.
34 posts in less than an hour
The map of the “New America” was just one of 34 posts by Trump on Truth Social in a very short time.
In one of them, the US president published a manipulated image where his face was superimposed on the body of famous wrestler Hulk Hogan, who was wearing a scarf with the inscription “MAGA”.
In another post, the borders of Iran were presented in a shape that created a silhouette of Trump’s face, while the military conflict with Tehran has been going on for more than six months.
Trump also released several graphs that, according to him, presented the economic achievements of his administration.
In another post, he republished a screenshot predicting the outcome of the AfD election in Saxony-Anhalt, without accompanying it with any commentary.
