An Egyptian court has sentenced TV presenter Sarah Khalifa and 11 other people to death after finding them guilty of involvement in a criminal group that imported raw materials for drug production with the aim of selling them.
According to Egyptian state media, the criminal group also illegally possessed weapons and ammunition.
Khalifa, 39, is known for her role in the crime drama series "Mission Impossible." She has denied the charges against her, and her lawyer has said she will appeal the verdict.
As part of the investigation, authorities seized more than 750 kilograms of narcotics, as well as imported materials for their production. The prosecution also relied on the testimonies of 20 people and electronic evidence, including conversations and videos.
Nine other defendants were sentenced to life imprisonment, while seven people were acquitted.
The death sentences were initially announced last month, but were only confirmed after receiving a religious opinion from Egypt's grand mufti, a mandatory procedure in cases of capital punishment.
According to a report by Amnesty International, 492 death sentences were handed down in Egypt in 2025, while 23 of them were executed.
