US presidential election: Joe Biden's troubled son leaves open the

Hunter Biden, the son of former US President Joe Biden, has left open the possibility of running for president of the United States in the 2028 elections, bringing the Biden family's political future back into focus.

During an interview on WABC radio station's "Cats Roundtable" show, 56-year-old Hunter Biden stated that he "maybe should" run for the White House if he had the support of show host and businessman John Catsimatidis.

"If I have your support, maybe I should do it," he said, when asked about the possibility of a presidential run.

Although Hunter Biden has not made any official announcement about his candidacy and there is no evidence that he has launched an electoral campaign, his statement represents a significant change in the stance he previously held.

Just a few weeks ago, Hunter Biden seemed to have ruled out the possibility of following in his father's footsteps and running for the US presidency.

In an interview on HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher," he was asked if he had considered running for the White House.

His answer was negative, while he also made a joke, saying that if he ever announced such a candidacy, people would have to check whether he had had any relapse into his previous problems.

The latest statement, however, indicates a more open attitude towards the possibility of a return to politics.

Hunter Biden said that one of the main issues he would like to address if he were to enter politics is the addiction crisis in the United States.

"What concerns me most are the 50 million Americans who continue to suffer from their addictions," he declared.

He has spoken publicly about his battle with addiction and described himself as a "former crack cocaine user," presenting his personal experience as a story of recovery.

At the same time, he said that one of his strongest points for a potential presidential run would be his commitment to the Constitution and the rule of law.

"I want the next president to commit to one thing: respecting the rule of law," he said.

A potential Hunter Biden candidacy would inevitably be accompanied by a great deal of attention to his past, business activities, litigation, and his battle with addiction.

In 2024, he was found guilty of charges related to possession of a weapon, while that same year he pleaded guilty in a case related to violations of tax legislation.

Later, his father, Joe Biden, granted him a broad federal pardon for criminal offenses related to the period 2014-2024.

In recent years, Hunter Biden has chosen to speak publicly about his past, defending his personal journey and rebutting attacks on him and the Biden family.

Despite leaving open the possibility of running, Hunter Biden acknowledged that the Democratic Party already has a strong group of names who could run for the White House in 2028.

He even expressed his support for California Governor Gavin Newsom, of whom he said: "I love him personally."

For now, Hunter Biden's statements seem more like a political signal than an announcement of the launch of a campaign.

However, the possibility of the Biden surname appearing again on the ballot for the 2028 presidential election has been enough to open a new discussion on the American political scene.
