Iran warns US: Response to attacks will be "heavier and more painful"

The speaker of the Iranian Parliament and the country's chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, has warned the United States that any future attack on Iran will face a harsher response.

"The rules of the game have changed and any violation of Iran's interests and security will receive a faster, more severe and more painful response," Ghalibaf declared.

The warning comes after US forces struck three Iranian crude oil tankers. According to US Central Command (CENTCOM), the strikes were carried out in response to the launch of ballistic missiles by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps towards two US warships.

CENTCOM commander Admiral Brad Cooper stated that the US will not hesitate to defend its forces and warned that it could strike the Iranian oil fleet if attacks on American ships continue.

Meanwhile, Ghalibaf acknowledged that in addition to the military conflict, Iran is facing strong economic pressure, with inflation, unemployment, and exchange rate fluctuations being listed as the main problems.

The US has also increased sanctions on Iran, targeting various sectors, including finance, transportation, technology and oil trade.

Iran, one of OPEC's largest oil producers, has seen its exports hit hard. According to data cited in the report, about 90% of Iranian crude oil was exported through Kharg Island before the war.

The economic pressure has also affected the livelihoods of citizens. According to the World Bank, the Iranian economy shrank by 2.7%, while inflation reached 62.2% in February, with food prices marking an annual increase of about 99%.

Ghalibaf called on Iranian authorities to strengthen domestic production and use technology to find short-term and long-term solutions to the economic crisis.
