Kosovo is shocked: Brother sets sister on fire and seriously injures mother

A serious crime within the family has shocked the village of Potreq in Klina, Kosovo, where a girl lost her life today after suffering serious injuries from a fire, while her mother was seriously injured.

According to the official announcement issued by the Kosovo Police, the incident was recorded yesterday, where the deceased's brother, suspected of being a person with mental health problems, is believed to have been the perpetrator.

Initially, he is suspected of setting fire to the bed where his sister was, and then it is thought that he went to another room and attacked his mother with a sharp object, causing serious bodily injuries.

The police immediately arrived at the scene and handcuffed the suspect, while the two women were initially taken to the Peje Regional Hospital, but due to their serious condition, they were transported to the UCCK in Pristina.

Today, the Kosovo Blues announced that the girl, who had suffered serious injuries from the fire, did not survive.

"Today, 07.07.2026, the Police were notified that the girl who had injuries from the fire was unable to survive her injuries and passed away, this was determined by the medical team," the report states.

According to local media reports , the suspect was initially detained for 48 hours due to his serious mental condition, then he was sent to the psychiatry ward of the Peja Regional Hospital, where he is receiving the necessary medical care under police supervision.
