The Albanian writer and albanologist Kapllan Resuli passed away yesterday. The author of 135 works breathed his last at the age of 88 in a Geneva hospital.

Kapllan Resuli, also known as Kaplan Burovic, is an Albanian writer and albanologist. He was among the first writers in prose among the Albanians of Yugoslavia together with Adem Demačin and Anton Pashku. After being imprisoned in Yugoslavia, he returned to Albania where he was also interned and further imprisoned for another 20 years.

But who was Caplan Resuli?

Resuli, born in Ulcinj, the son of Xhano and Nurija, his family - since Ulcinians are known as Resulbegs - originally from Bosnia settled in Ulcinj fortress during the Ottoman Empire. He was educated in the Serbian language, while the Albanian language was given to him by the teacher Tajar Hatibi - according to him.

After being in prison, in 1952 he wrote the poem Bojana in Dubrovnik. The poem was published by the House of Culture of the Dalmatian city where he attended school, which would later be published in the temporary Iskra of Belgrade and Polet of Zagreb. In 1954, he published two lyrical songs from Ulcinj without commentary under the pseudonym Kapllan Kalushi. In the same year, he completed the XV gymnasium in Belgrade and in 1957 he completed his higher education, which he attended at the University of Skopje, where the Chair of the Albanian Language was headed by Petro Janura.

After Bojana reprinted the poem for the fourth time while serving as a soldier in Skopje, he was arrested and imprisoned in Idrizova prison. In 1960, he emigrated to Albania, where he entered the "Yugoslav immigrant camp" in Cerma. This is the time when he conceived the novel Betrayal.
