A serious incident has been uncovered in Limassol, Cyprus, where a 43-year-old Syrian man is suspected of killing his 61-year-old partner, Olga Vasilieva, and then dumping her body in a well in the mountainous area of Saittas.
The man admitted to the crime to investigators and led them to the place where he had hidden the body of the victim, who had been declared missing on October 28. According to preliminary investigations, it is suspected that the motive for the murder is related to financial gain, as the 43-year-old had obtained money from the woman through fraud, claiming that he needed it to compensate a person after a car accident.
He had demanded between 15,000 and 20,000 euros, and had also given her a counterfeit necklace, which he had presented as jewelry worth around 10,000 euros. Suspicions about Olga's disappearance increased after her dog barked constantly in the apartment, while the owner did not appear, and a photograph provided by her son, where the 43-year-old was seen with the animal, helped the police identify the suspect.
Initial forensic examinations revealed a head injury, suspected to have been caused by a hard object, while the exact cause of death is expected to be determined by an autopsy. Investigators are also analyzing security camera footage, where a person is seen placing something in the trunk of a vehicle, as well as withdrawals of significant amounts from the 61-year-old's bank accounts.
The suspect was arrested at Larnaca Airport, as he prepared to travel to Beirut, after purchasing his ticket in the early hours of October 29, and is expected to appear in court on charges of premeditated murder.
