Russian authorities have arrested a minor after the US Embassy in Moscow warned of a "credible threat of a mass casualty event" at the Tsaritsyno museum-reserve in the Russian capital.
The Federal Security Service (FSB) announced on Sunday that it had detained a minor Russian citizen following the operations. Meanwhile, authorities canceled planned cultural events at the museum and increased security measures in the surrounding area.
According to the FSB, the minor had posted videos on TikTok showing himself in tactical clothing, including a mask, hat, goggles and headphones, while holding an object resembling an automatic weapon. He had also posted photos taken in the museum premises, accompanied by the caption: "I found a place."
During a search of his apartment, authorities found the clothing and equipment shown in the video. According to the FSB, an examination of electronic devices also revealed a TikTok account used to post threats, as well as a subscription to a neo-Nazi channel on Telegram.
The Russian service also said that a significant number of internet searches related to past terrorist attacks, mass murders and other acts of violence were found on the minor's devices.
The FSB thanked the United States for the information provided.
A day earlier, the US Embassy in Moscow had warned of a “credible threat of a mass casualty event” at a museum and park in the Russian capital. It had urged citizens to avoid the area, remain vigilant and stay away from large gatherings of people.
The embassy announced that the US government was coordinating actions with Russian authorities to respond to the threat.
