US President Donald Trump has expressed optimism about the possibility of reaching a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine, stating that an agreement could be close before the G20 summit, which will be held in December at his Trump National Doral resort in Florida.

In an interview with conservative commentator Benny Johnson, published on Saturday, Trump said there is a "very good chance " of resolving the conflict, referring to the possibility of reaching an agreement between the two leaders.

"I think we're very close to reaching a deal there," Trump said, acknowledging that there is deep animosity between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Asked about reports on the possibility of an agreement between Russia and Ukraine during the G20 summit, the US president did not rule out this possibility, expressing confidence that negotiations could bring about progress.

"I think there is a very good chance that we will resolve this issue as well. We are also working on many other agreements," he said.

During the interview, Trump also focused on Iran, stating that the US is determined not to allow Tehran to obtain nuclear weapons.

He claimed that Iran's military capabilities have been significantly weakened and added that Washington will "finish that matter."

As for Cuba, Trump predicted that the country's communist leadership will not stay in power long, hinting that Washington may shift its attention to the island after Venezuela.

"It's a failed country. We'll get the people back there very quickly ," Trump declared, adding that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is closely monitoring the situation.
