The publication of details from the SPAK file about a box filled with euros, photographed in an environment that, according to the prosecution, appears to be  Belinda Balluku's villa in Dhërmi, has brought a reaction from the head of the DP parliamentary group, Gazment Bardhi.

Bardhi, through a post on Facebook , demands explanations from SPAK as to why it has not yet requested the arrest of the former deputy prime minister and raises questions about the standards that justice is following.

In his post this Sunday, Bardhi calls the situation unacceptable, especially the fact that Balluku continues to have influence over public decision-making.

Gazment Bardhi's full post on Facebook:

 Unacceptable!

It is unimaginable that millions of euros gained from corruption, hidden in boxes and various schemes, do not lead to accountability before the courts, while Belinda Balluku, who is facing serious charges, continues to exert influence over public decision-making, which directly affects the lives of citizens.

It is a situation that raises serious questions about equality before the law and Albanian justice standards. How can it be explained that a senior public official, against whom charges have been brought for 15 criminal episodes, related to five criminal offenses, including corruption and money laundering, is being tried at large, despite the risk that may arise for witness intimidation or evidence tampering?

Belinda Balluku is among the highest-ranking public officials against whom SPAK has brought charges of this nature and importance. However, the issue that requires public explanation is the fact that, after the expansion of the charges and the aggravation of her criminal position, the same approach was not followed regarding the request for arrest.

We recall that in an earlier phase of the investigation, when only a portion of the charges that are currently in the criminal file were against her, SPAK addressed the Assembly with a request to lift her immunity and issue an arrest warrant. Edi Rama opposed this request in the Assembly, arguing that at that time there was not yet a corruption charge.

Today, when the accusations have increased and include corruption and money laundering, the public has the right to ask: Why has the standard followed by SPAK changed? What are the concrete reasons that justify this change? And above all, is the same legal standard being applied to everyone, regardless of power or function?

Justice cannot be selective. There cannot be one standard for Edi Rama's political opponents and another for his powerful officials and close associates. One cannot demand trust in justice if its decisions are not accompanied by transparency and convincing explanations.

No one should be above the law. No power should be a shield against justice. And no citizen should have reason to believe that in Albania justice works differently for those in power.
