This Friday, the 83rd protest took place in Tirana against the government of Prime Minister Edi Rama.
The protesters initially gathered at "Skënderbej" Square, from where they started the march towards "Dëshmorët e Kombit" Boulevard, and then gathered in front of the Prime Minister's Office building, where they continued to call for the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama.
Activist Andi Tepelena called on mayors and citizens of municipalities affected by territorial reform to take to the streets against Edi Rama. Speaking from the square, he stressed that there is still time to save their municipalities if they join the protesters demanding the prime minister's removal.
"I appeal to the mayors of the municipalities affected by the reform. There are 15 municipalities that are expected to be merged. In 2014, the end came to some municipalities, such as Fushë-Krujë, Sukthi, which are depopulated. My appeal is for the mayors to join the square and the protesters. You have an obligation to the citizens who supported you and to their hometown. Before they suffer the same fate that other municipalities suffered in 2014, it is time to join the revolt and unite their municipalities. Let the citizens unite too ," he said.
Protesters also held banners with messages against Prime Minister Edi Rama. “Rama out,” one of them read, demanding the prime minister’s resignation. Another banner read “Resignation has a name.”
Afterwards, the protesters continued their march through the streets of Tirana, chanting in unison: "Resign!"
Part of their demands is the overthrow of the political class and the creation of a technical government.
