Official Tirana reacts to the Pustec scandal

The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, in a public reaction, expresses regret that at the activity held yesterday in Pustec, which was also attended by the Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Mickoski, the Albanian national anthem was not played, alongside that of the Republic of Macedonia.

The statement emphasizes that the non-inclusion of the Albanian anthem is a serious omission and a breach of etiquette and protocol.

"Although the activity was organized by a local association, the presence of senior institutional representatives and local elected officials gave it a special public dimension."

In this context, the non-inclusion of the Albanian National Anthem constitutes a serious omission and a departure from the written and unwritten rules of etiquette and protocol, which require and impose respect for national symbols alongside those of the communities they represent.

"Respect for national symbols should not be a matter of politics or interpretation," the statement said.

"It is part of institutional ethics, protocol and, above all, mutual respect, especially in a space where different communities and identities coexist."

In Pustec, as in every space of the Republic of Albania, respect for national symbols is part of respect for the citizens themselves, for the values of democratic coexistence and the civic culture that unites us.

"It is also the foundation of good neighborliness and healthy relations between our people and countries," the MEPJ statement continues.
