Berisha: Albanians lost 30% of their savings as a result of the euro's fall
Sali Berisha

Sali Berisha has accused the government that, according to him, the devaluation of the euro has caused significant losses to the savings of Albanian citizens.

In a statement, the leader of the Democratic Party claimed that from the fall in the exchange rate between 2020 and 2025, Albanians have lost 236 billion lek, or about 30% of the value of their savings in euros.

Berisha links this situation to what he calls the impact of the narco-state on the economy and claims that money gained from criminal activities has contributed to the depreciation of the European currency.

"Dear citizens, I am here to speak again and again about a vicious enemy that is mercilessly eroding your economy, your pockets, your security.

For a fierce enemy who is also the plasma of the authoritarian dictatorial regime in Albania.

And this enemy is the narco-state, for which those who speak out can be counted on the fingers of one hand.

Which the government media has a moratorium on never mentioning.

But, on the other hand, it constitutes the power of evil against Albanians.

I have denounced hundreds of thousands of times and will continue to denounce the most dramatic aspects of the narco-state that affect the Albanian economy, the pockets of Albanians, and the businesses of Albanians.

What the media in Albania hides as a whole, what politicians as a whole do not dare to Albanianize, or journalists, except for some brave and courageous journalist, is in fact the factor with blind destructive power over Albanians.

Today I will present to you the data on the catastrophic consequences of the narco-euros that government-affiliated traffickers bring to Albania in wagons, containers, planes, minibuses, and other means.

I chose savings first for this.

In 2020, Albanian citizens as individuals had 965 million euros deposited.

In 2025, these deposits reached 2 billion euros.

The exchange rate in lek in 2020 was 123.7 lek per euro.

The exchange rate in 2025 fell to 96.7 lek per euro. So it fell by 27 lek.

What happened to savings?

Euro savings from 2020 to 2025 have depreciated by 236 billion lek.

Albanians, rightly considering the euro as the most valuable and stable currency, have deposited their money in euros in banks and have suffered a terrible loss of 236 billion lek.

Imagine, hundreds of thousands of Albanians have lost about 30 percent of their savings from this exchange rate alone.

"I'm not stopping at other deposits, I only dealt with individual deposits," Berisha said.
