Berisha meets with a US congressman: Rama is using drug money and criminal
Berisha and American Congressman Keith Self

During his visit to the United States, Democratic Leader Sali Berisha held a meeting with American Congressman Keith Self.

According to the DP, the focus of the conversation was drug trafficking, corruption and the influence of organized crime on electoral processes in Albania.

Berisha accused Edi Rama's government of using drug money and organized crime structures to influence elections and consolidate power. He also stated that Rama has damaged independent institutions and concentrated power in his own hands.

"The meeting also discussed the idea of a caretaker government as a mechanism for guaranteeing free and fair elections, taking the North Macedonia model as a reference. According to Berisha, such a solution would create the conditions for an electoral process where power is determined through a free vote. Congressman Self, for his part, expressed interest in developments in Albania and the situation in the Balkans, stating that he will follow the region closely," the DP statement said.
