Donald Trump has criticized "negative forces" who want to slow down the development of artificial intelligence. He made the statements during a conversation with reporters from his golf club in Doonbeg, Ireland, where he is attending a tournament, after the end of his official visit to the country.
"I think there are a lot of negative forces that are raising this issue without reason, bringing up scenarios that are not going to happen ," Trump declared.
The US president was responding to the alarm raised by some of the largest US companies in the artificial intelligence sector, which have called for slowing down the development of AI, fearing that the technology could escape human control.
Trump then emphasized the importance of new technologies and the weight they have in the power relations between countries in the international arena.
"We are ahead of China in artificial intelligence, we are the most advanced country in the world. And, frankly, I want it to stay that way, because whoever wins in the field of artificial intelligence, wins everything," Trump declared.
