Trump: Three-day ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine

US President Donald Trump announced that a three-day ceasefire agreement has been reached between Russia and Ukraine, on the occasion of "Victory Day" in Russia.

Through a post on the social truth platform, Trump emphasizes that all combat activities will be suspended, and an exchange of 1,000 prisoners from each country will take place.

"I am pleased to announce that there will be a THREE-DAY CRUISE (May 9, 10 and 11) in the war between Russia and Ukraine. The celebrations in Russia are for Victory Day, but also in Ukraine, because they were an important part and factor of World War II."

This ceasefire will include a suspension of all hostilities, as well as an exchange of prisoners of 1,000 from each country. This request was made directly by me, and I greatly appreciate its acceptance by President Vladimir Putin and President Volodymyr Zelensky.

We hope this is the beginning of the end of a very long, deadly and difficult war. Talks are ongoing to end this major conflict, the largest since World War II, and we are getting closer and closer every day.

Thank you for your attention to this issue!

President DONALD J. TRUMP," Trump wrote on the social truth platform.

Recall that it was the Russian President who announced a two-day ceasefire in the conflict with Ukraine, on May 8-9, on the occasion of the anniversary of the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II.

"If Ukraine tries to disrupt Victory Day celebrations, there will be massive retaliation with a missile strike on the center of Kiev," the Russian Defense Ministry also warned.

For his part, Zelensky had proposed a ceasefire from May 6, in response to a Russian proposal for a ceasefire on May 8-9. According to him, this ceasefire he proposed was violated by the Russians.

Reports of a bridge of communication between Brussels and Moscow for the first time since the start of the conflict come as the war in Ukraine has entered its fifth year and negotiations have so far been frozen.

Washington, which has made continuous efforts as a mediator to bring the parties back to the negotiating table, has shifted its attention away from this conflict to focus on the Middle East.
