Belgium has become the first country to impose a mandatory 21-day quarantine on any person infected with the monkey pox virus.
This decision of the Belgian health authorities comes after three cases were registered in the country.
The first ones were recorded on Friday and are linked to a festival in the city of Antwerp.
Meanwhile it has been warned that there will be an increase in cases of monkey pox in the UK over the next 2-3 weeks, writes the Daily Mail.
According to figures, monkey pox is a rare viral disease that kills about 10% of the people it strikes. The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that there may be an increase in rare virus cases due to the greater organization of the holidays in the summer months.
Monkey pox, most common in western and central Africa, causes mild illness, characterized by fever and lumps in the body. Originally identified in monkeys, the disease spreads in cases of very close contact and has rarely spread outside Africa. Scientists do not expect an outbreak like the coronavirus because this virus does not spread as easily as SARS-COV-2.
