President Joe Biden says North Korea has not responded to a U.S. offer for Covid vaccines, as the country is struggling with the first officially accepted outbreak.
Nearly 2.5 million people have been sick "fevered" in North Korea and it is under nationwide quarantine, according to the country's state media.
President Biden announced the offer at a press conference in South Korea.
"We have offered vaccines, not only to North Korea, but also to China, and we are prepared to do it immediately," Mr Biden said in a joint presentation with South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol.
'We have not received any answers', he added.
North Korea's isolated regime has previously rejected vaccine offers from Covax, the global vaccine-sharing scheme, and South Korea, as well as reportedly rejecting other offers.
Instead, Peniani claimed to have successfully prevented Covid by closing his borders, although experts believe the virus has been present there for some time.
State media has recommended medicines such as plant tea, salt water gargara and taking painmedications like ibuprofen, while the country's leader, Kim Jong-un, has accused officials of confining the distribution of national medicine reserves.
China is also trying to control a wave of infections from the highly communicable Omicron variant, with tens of millions of people quarantined.
At the press conference in South Korea's capital Seoul, President Biden said he was willing to meet with Kim under the right circumstances.
"It will depend on whether he was honest and whether he was serious," Mr. Biden said.
His predecessor, Donald Trump, held a historic summit with Kim in Singapore in 2018 and became the first US president to step foot in North Korea a year later.
But two years ago, Kim questioned whether there was any need to continue the 'handshake' with the US.
The presidents of the U.S. and South Korea also agreed to deploy American weapons if necessary to undermine North Korea and increase military exercises - which had been reduced in recent years in an effort to lower tensions.
