Alarming/ 9 electricians dismissed from duty in a few months! (The scary figures
9 electricians dead

Altin Petanaj is a 45-year-old electrician who lost his life this afternoon in the village of Kocul, Vlora.

Petanaj came into contact with electricity while the group of workers was carrying out repair work at the electrical substation.

The full circumstances of the incident are not yet known, but this tragedy only adds to the toll of the electricians who fell in the line of duty.

As we enter the beginning of November, a total of 9 electricians have lost their lives in 2026.

Yesterday, in the village of Vasije in Kalasë e Dodës, Lulzim Shehu was knocked down by an electric pole while he was working. A month ago, Klajdi Zekthi lost his life in the village of Trojas in Belsh, while he was fixing a defect. The young man came into contact with electricity while carrying out the work.

The day before, on September 11, Ermal Dëbrova lost his life in the village of Margllić, Patos. He was working on an electric pole when he came into contact with electricity and died.

Meanwhile, 3 days before him, on September 8, Muhamet Sylisufaj lost his life while working on Dobrave Street, while 3 of his colleagues were injured. He came into contact with electricity.

Even the summer months were not spared from tragedies. On August 29, David Deda lost his life in the village of Karmë in Vau i Dejës (on the Koman road).

The incident occurred while he and Sokol Preka (40 years old, a security guard at a bar) were working to repair an electrical installation on the exterior of a private business and accidentally came into contact with electricity.

Just three days before him, on July 26, Agim Beqiri lost his life in the village of Zërvaskë, Pogradec, after coming into contact with electricity.

Meanwhile, on July 22, Bashkim Boçi lost his life in Himara. Boçi was working to repair defects and restore electricity after a severe storm that hit the south of the country.

He fell from a height of about 9 meters from an electric pole after his seat belt broke and was taken to the hospital with no signs of life.

Meanwhile, the first electrician of 2026 to lose his life would be Mark Prenga. The incident occurred on the morning of February 19, 2026, at around 09:40, in the village of Rrilë, Lezha. He was working to repair a defect in an electric pole when he was electrocuted.

All of these serious events cannot be treated as statistics under any circumstances, as they are tragic stories of people who lost their lives while providing energy to thousands of families.

These tragedies also raise questions about the conditions in which electricians in the country work. From falling into contact with electricity, but above all serious cases such as Lulzim Shehu who was knocked down by a pole, and Bashkim Boçi who fell from a height after his safety belt broke, show that these workers are exposed to danger every day.

What measures have been taken to prevent these serious accidents at work? Are there checks on the conditions in which electricians work? Do employees undergo training on safety conditions and on what criteria are field workers selected?

"Shekulli" has been requesting information from OSHEE for these questions since September, and yet, as of the publication of this article, there has been no response.

From protective equipment to work procedures and technical supervision, any weak link can turn into a tragedy.

For those who work on electric poles, the energy that brings light to homes remains a daily danger that could cost them their lives./ Shekulli
