The officers who were investigating this attack, contacted their colleagues and were asked to do a search at the house of Muhaj's ex-girlfriend, 32-year-old Suela Saliaj, and their 8-year-old daughter.

When the police went to the young woman's address, they saw traces of blood outside her apartment, along with a knife and iron gloves covered in blood.

Officers found Suela dead in the bedroom. She was on the floor, covered in blood and with a large gash in her throat.

After failing to find the 8-year-old girl, authorities issued an AMBER alert, the emergency response for missing persons.

Around 08:30 am they managed to locate the 34-year-old's phone and learned that he was still in the area. An officer identified the suspect's car.

At this point a detective drove past the vehicle and noticed that there were people inside.

Two civilian cars surrounded him from both sides, handcuffing Muhajn. They also found his 8-year-old daughter.

According to American media, the little girl told the police that she had seen the 34-year-old hit her mother with a knife and an iron handle several times in the bedroom.

The little girl, always according to the media there, told the police that she knew her mother was dead and that she had asked her father: "Why did you do this?"

The causes of this serious event are currently unknown. Saliaj's family told police that Muhaj had not been violent in the past. He also does not appear to have previous criminal records.
