Ilir Binaj

The wave of resignations in state institutions continues, following Prime Minister Edi Rama's order to dismiss administration leaders. It is learned that the Director General of Taxes, Ilir Binaj, has also resigned today .

Binaj, who had held this position since October 2024, has submitted his resignation as part of the request that Prime Minister Rama has forwarded to ministers for the heads of subordinate institutions.

Ilir Binaj was appointed head of the tax administration on October 2, 2024, by decision of the Council of Ministers. Binaj has been accused of exerting tax pressure on businesses with certain orders.

His resignation comes a day after Vox News exclusively reported on the ministers' urgent meetings with the heads of institutions, during which the request for resignation was communicated to them.

According to information provided by Vox News , the process began this Friday and should be completed by Monday, October 26.

Meanwhile, it still remains unclear whether the resignations of the leaders will be finally accepted or whether some of them will be reconfirmed in office after an evaluation process.

It is not yet known who will replace Ilir Binaj at the head of the General Directorate of Taxes.
