A decision by the Premier League's independent commission risks shaking the foundations of Manchester City.
After a years-long investigation, the English giant has been found guilty of 114 of 115 charges of financial misconduct. As reported by The Athletic, the investigation has been completed and now only the imposition of a punitive measure is awaited.
All possible sanctions options against the reigning champions remain on the table. The penalties could range from a heavy financial fine, to a points deduction or even possible expulsion from the championship. If points deduction is decided, the club could also be stripped of the titles it has won in the past.
Manchester City's board of directors have no intention of giving up and have immediately announced a formal appeal. The club's legal officials stated that the process has been long and credible, insisting on their innocence.
