Germany has not provided a full overview of how billions of euros have been spent on military modernization, reports the Berliner Zeitung.
According to the report, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has not provided clear details on the use of the approximately 111 billion euros allocated for the Bundeswehr modernization program.
These funds are part of the "Zeitenwende" (turning point) initiative, announced in 2022 by former Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
Over the last four years, around 47 thousand contracts have been signed, an average of around 30 agreements per day.
However, neither parliament nor the public have received a clear picture of how much of the purchased equipment has actually been delivered or is in use.
The report describes the situation as a "financial black hole" in Germany's rearmament process.
The Ministry of Defense has twice refused to provide detailed data. At a press conference, spokeswoman Natalie Jenning suggested that information be sought in the ministry's public sources.
Meanwhile, in response to a parliamentary question from the Left Party, authorities argued that centralized tracking of expenditures is difficult due to the large volume of documentation and could affect the deadlines of defense projects.
