Clash: Congress could block Trump's plan to withdraw troops from Europe

United States President Donald Trump's plan to significantly reduce the number of American troops in Europe could face serious legal and political obstacles.

According to Fox News reporting, a recent defense bill prohibits reducing the US military presence below 76,000 troops on the continent without a detailed risk analysis.

The administration must prove that such a decision does not harm national security and NATO interests.

Although Congress cannot directly veto it, it controls funding and can limit funds for troop deployment, making the plan virtually impossible to implement.

Experts emphasize that military infrastructure in Europe is essential for rapid response to crises and deterrence of threats, especially from Russia.

Currently, the bulk of US troops are concentrated in a few key locations:

-Germany: about 36 thousand troops

However, the legal limitations relate to the total number of troops in Europe and not to their distribution by country, which leaves the president room for internal repositioning.

Analysts warn that a hasty withdrawal could weaken the US deterrent effect and send the wrong signals at a time of high geopolitical tensions.

Trump himself has stated that some of the troops will return to the US, while some Republicans have called for them to be moved to the Middle East.

However, resistance in Congress and logistical complexity make a quick withdrawal difficult, warning of a potential political clash in Washington.
