A Russian soldier has been sentenced to life in prison in the first war crimes trial in Ukraine, writes the BBC.
Vadim Shishimarin, 21, was sentenced to life in prison for killing an unarmed civilian a few days after the Russian occupation began.
It is the first time a member of the Russian army has been prosecuted for a war crime.
Prosecutor General ryna Venediktova's office has said it is investigating more than 10,700 possible war crimes involving more than 600 suspects, including Russian soldiers and government officials.
Ukrainian prosecutors also said Shishimarin, a sergeant from the Siberian region of Irkutsk, and four other Russian servicemen shot and stole a private car to escape after their convoy was targeted by Ukrainian forces.
